My Story

Shayla Townsend is the Founder & Chief Executive Officer at Townsend Advisory Group (TAG), here she oversees the firm's operations, including HR consulting, training, finance, information technology and marketing. Her leadership has helped TAG establish a reputation as a top-tier consulting/training and development firm. She has helped individuals and organizations of all sizes to develop effective HR strategies that improve employee engagement, retention, and productivity.

  • Shayla has 20 years of experience in multiple industries, having worked with clients across a range of sectors, including non-profit, social services, banking, landscaping/home improvement, education, healthcare and hospitality industry in public and private companies acting in roles as County Director, Regional Manager, HR Manager, Counselor, Social Worker and CEO.

  • Beyond her role at TAG, Shayla actively engages with her local community. Committed to various organizations focusing on education, job training, and economic development, she volunteers her time and expertise. Recently recognized as the Entrepreneur of the Year (2023) by the Birmingham Minority Business Committee & Mastercard, is a graduate of the Renasant Bank Capacity Building Program and holds approval as a local, state and federal contractor.

  • She is a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree and a graduate of Alabama A & M University, where she received a Master’s degree.
